BlackVue Cloud privacy settings
Your Privacy Comes First: Understanding BlackVue Cloud’s Default Settings
We’ve noticed some confusion about BlackVue and BlackVue Cloud’s default privacy settings, so let’s set the record straight.
Your footage is private by default. Full stop.
When you first connect your BlackVue dash cam to BlackVue Cloud, your privacy settings are automatically set to private. This means your footage stays exactly where it should be: on the microSD card. No strangers can access your videos, no public viewing is enabled, and your journeys remain completely confidential unless you wish to share them.
Double-checking your privacy settings
Want peace of mind or to simply confirm? It takes just seconds to confirm your dash cam is set to Private.
- Click on your camera within the BlackVue App.
- Select “More” from the list
- Choose “Camera Settings”
- Select “GPS Access & Live Broadcast” (first option in the list)
- Under the heading “Live Broadcast”, ensure the toggle is switched to Off
Note: If you do not see the little blue cloud icon next to your camera name, or the buttons for Remote Playback and Remote Live View then your BlackVue is not Cloud-connected.

The video below also demonstrates the steps you can take to toggle the feature off.
Please note: the video recording features the older settings menu which has now slightly changed.
My camera is not cloud connected, does this concern me?
If your camera is not cloud connected then your footage and recordings live only on the microSD card. Linking your camera to the cloud is a manual process which requires “BYO” data to facilitate, in short, you need to have an active 4G connection near to your camera and have gone through the setup procedure.
If you ever decide you would like to enable public sharing—perhaps to help other drivers or showcase an interesting journey—you have complete control. Simply open the BlackVue App, navigate to your camera settings, and enable Share Location under the heading Public. Only then will others be able to view your footage remotely.
